Check the supporting structure as well as the boards: connections and flashing at an attached ledger, joists, beams, posts, footings, stairs and guards as applicable. A surface photograph alone cannot establish structural condition.
Selected boards may be replaced when the supporting components are suitable to remain. Define the board quantities, material and finish, and assess the framing and connections; additional deterioration may become visible during removal.
